General Notary Documents

For general notary documents, you need to know what type of notarial act you need for your specific notary document. The best way to know which notarial act you need for your specific document is to contact the issuing or receiving entity.

The signers must present a CA-approved ID for the notary to be able to notarize your document, or credible identifying witnesses if a photo ID is absent.

The notary, can not advice you on which notarial act you should use because I will be performing an unauthorized practice of law.

It is important to have your document ready and filled out. Typically in the state California, notarizations can not be completed if blanks are not filled. However, there
are some exemptions to this requirement.

Know that the notary, needs to be able to communicate with the signer directly and may not use an interpreter, also known as the "middle man," to be able to notarize your document. The signers must be aware and alert and may not be assisted in signing or dating the documents or be directed on how to sign them.

Hospital/Jail Notarization

Hospitals and Jail facilities operate differently from each other and have specific rules and regulations for notarizations, such as visits, meal and medication times, and shift changes.

For Jail facilities in particular, if you need to provide witnesses, you need to arrange the witnesses before the notary comes.

It is crucial to have the document you will get notarized ready and filled out, including, but not limited to, the right notarial act attached to it. If you need assistance for this matter, it is best to contact the issuing or receiving entity.

I, the notary, do not practice law; therefore, I can not give you any legal advice, which includes generating or creating legal documents.

Also keep in mind that I am not allowed to take in or bring out any items for inmates. In doing so, I will be facing criminal charges.

To obtain a successful notarization, make sure the signer's name on the documents match the name on the ID/wrist band.
